Behind the scenes, Inside my Studio!

My newest discovery that will be appearing on new jewellery pieces!
Happy March 2018 everyone! Hard to believe that winter is almost over. That is if you live in Canada or somewhere around this half of the globe. Sorry it has been a while since I've shared anything new and exciting. It has been a busy winter working on art projects, jewellery making of course, polymer clay, illustrating, dealing with health issues, not to mention, this is been a season all about old things being replaced, including my 12 year old power wheelchair. Which has been quite a process and thankfully, Is finally complete. If you're interested in knowing more about that side of our life, feel free to check out our blog walking way overrated.

If you are interested, my Etsy shop, A Bergie Creation is here and you can like my ABC Facebook page here!

What have I been working On These past Months?
First of all I have been working on something to brighten up our windows as the snow insists on staying this winter. They also make great gifts to. Who am I kidding, it always sticks around in northwestern Ontario. I don't sell these window clings, so far anyway,  in my shop, but I do you want to show you -since it something I've been working on in my studio. If you want to learn more about faux how I make stain glass, hair is my creativity blog/ with videos HeArtfully Creating!

Newest Discovery!
Being an artist, I love art supplies. One new supply that I discovered this winter, and can't get enough of, are nail art powders. Not the traditional mica powders, that we see in  eyeshadows and such. (I love mica too)
This powders, flakes and glitter powder, are called chrome, chameleon, and mirror chrome. They contain 2 to 3 colors all in one powder or flake. It is amazing to me the plethora of polymer clay decorating possibilities, that exists in the nail art supply World.
Needless to say, I've  been experimenting as I apply it to Polymer Clay and resin pieces. Here are just a few photographs. So you can see why, I've become a bit obsessed with these beautiful  powders.

And Now For My Most Recent Jewelry Creation..
Just a week or so ago, I was excited when another one of my polymer clay bracelets sold in my shop! It was another one of the beautiful heart charm bracelets, created with polymer clay. Bracelets aren't something that I have a lot of in my shop. I tend to focus on necklaces and earrings. So I thought I would try designing some new bracelets that I have never done before, cuff and bangle style in polymer clay!
I want to share a sneak peek at what I have created so far this past week. They're not complete yet. Finishing touches matter a lot. But at least I can show you where I am at so far. My hope is that they will be ready to be listed for sale within the next week or two.

Behind the Scenes, In The Studio: What Have I Been Creating?

Howdy guys!  I have been diligently working creating one of a kind, original texture plates so I can make some beautiful earrings. Just when I thought I had some great completed pieces of wearable art, I too my usual zillions of photographs for my online Etsy shop, A Bergie Creation (click here). But,as
I was editing them, I noticed, thanks to direct sunlight and the macro photography setting on my Canon pocket digital camera....  Tiny little bubbles in the polyurethane gloss appeared! This has been a learning process.  I thought I was so careful.

So unfortunately, I will be longer getting my new work listed. But, I really liked the pieces I thought were okay so I wanted to at least share them as a Behind the Scenes, In My Studio post.

The first piece has, thanks to the inspiration of Christi Friesen's polymer clay art work, where she talks about incorporating inclusions, which is anything not made from polymer clay. I incorporated items like micro beads and a small faceted Glass bead. The surface was then treated with Mica Powder, acrylic paint, and finished with that frustrating water based polyurethane. I thought it looked great at first, but then as you take the photos under direct sunlight, then you see all those darn bubbles...teeny ones!

Maybe I am being too picky. Oh
well, it is important to perfect my work so customers receive professional wearable art! Creating is always a learning process.
Thanks for stopping by.

NEW! Saturday Sneak Peek!-Behind The Scenes

Happy Saturday everyone!
Hope all is groovy and well.
The past couple of months have been gearing up to release and list some new pieces of jewellery! So today, I want to share a sneak peek at these amazing polymer clay pieces that I have created using texture plates and rollers that I created  myself (so no copying of other artist's work, which is important to me as an artist. For those who use some of the beautiful ready made texture sheets and rollers, that is great. Whatever works for you. Just know that it is totally possible to make your very own designs and texture making tools, plates and rollers!

One Of A Kind - No Other Patterns Or Pieces Like These!
As well as using my own texture patterns, I also did some surface treatments that revealed a really cool rustic/patins look and metallic in some pieces. The backs of some look like hammered metal! Love it.

Inspired By
Being inspired by Christi Friesen's work, she adds a lot of other elements/inclusions, in the first pair below, I incorporated some copper tone micro marbles and a faceted glass bead for texture and sparkle.  Of course, amazing mica powders, always enhance any piece. Acrylic paints and polyurethane glaze also were used to achieve these really interesting effects.
As soon as I complete these pieces by transforming them into jewellery, I will be posting the news on here!

PEEK INSIDE MY STUDIO...What Am I Creating?

My recent work in progress. Puffy Heart Pendants with colourful mokume-gane cane.
Hi, just wanted to share what I have been crazy busy working on. For me crazy busy is always a good thing because I love creating. Makes sense then why, I have wanted to be an artist since I can remember!
For the last few weeks I have been turning some gorgeous mokume-gane cane designs into beads and heart pendants and other pieces. Once they are all formed and fired in the home oven. Usually 275 degrees fahrenheit. Then depending on the finish I want. I often sand and lightly buff the surface. To achieve a nice sheen, I love using Renaissance wax. It is a beautiful way to protect the surface and when buffed out, it leaves a subtle sheen. And these pieces that are finished this way, are left with a nice buttery feeling. I believe I heard another polymer clay artist describe the feel of it that way.
Because my hand strength is not great, I can not hand sand and buff to a high shine like some artists can. But I am happy with what I can accomplish with the tools I have.
HeArtfully Creating, is my creativity blog. Click to take a look. I just thought maybe that is why I have been into making heart pendants and dangles to make bracelets. When I just sold my first polymer clay puffy heart charm bracelet, I felt inspired to make more heart dangles. As an artist I tend to create what inspires me. But, as a shop owner, I also want to know what people would like to buy. No, I never was good at doing commissions because as an artist, I had a a difficult time painting or drawing something super specific. It's why I love just following my desire to create colourful designs and then if someone happens to want to buy them, that is a bonus!
Sneak Peek!
Here are some of my newest beads and pendants that I am just working on finishing the surfaces. Then the next step is creating wearable art by putting together the beads and such. Subscribe so you won't miss out on anything. I will be posting pictures of the first new pieces, fresh out of the studio BEFORE they are listed in my Etsy Shop, A Bergie Creation (Click to see my shop!)
